Captain Brian Vaughn

Captain Brian Vaughn is a United States Coast Guard licensed captain and owner & operator of Off The Hook Charters Inc. located in Hilton Head Island, SC. Vaughn, has well over 30 years of experience guiding inshore, offshore, light tackle and fly fishing charters for all skill levels. As an Island native and a full time fishing guide, Vaughn has been fishing the waters that surround Hilton Head Island his entire life. From a very early age he was taught fishing techniques and learned valuable skills from some of the best guides in the business. His vast knowledge of saltwater fishing ranges up & down the east coast of the U.S. and as far as the pristine waters of Costa Rica where many of his winters have been spent.

Captain Vaughn is a true waterman who spends over 300 days a year on the water guiding fishing charters with clients or fishing for fun with his family and friends. Somehow a fishing rod finds his hand every day! Whether you want to fish the flats for redfish or the backwater sounds for monster tarpon, cobia and many other species, let Captain Vaughn put you on a fish of a lifetime. He is very dedicated to making every trip a safe, productive and a memorable experience for all of his clients. Since the inception of Off The Hook Fishing Charters 20+ years ago Capt. Vaughn has been guiding some of the best light tackle & fly fishing charters here in the pristine waters of the Low Country of South Carolina.

Vaughn has been very fortunate to break two substantial IGFA World Records using a fly rod right here in his back yard on Hilton Head Island. The first record a 16 lb. 13 oz. Tripletail caught July 9th 2010 then followed with a 35 lb. 0 oz. Jack Crevalle caught September 20th 2018. These records took him many years to achieve using specific line class tippet. Both of these catches broke the previous records that stood for well over 20 years. 

ARTIST AS WELL AS A FISHERMAN

With a fine arts degree in one hand and a career as renowned charter fisherman in the other, Vaughn combined his passions of fishing and art by focusing on the ancient art of Gyotaku. Vaughn began by printing fish caught by charter clients, friends and of course himself. In his own unique style Vaughn mastered the art of bringing his fish back to life on paper by embellishing his prints using the natural colors of his subject.
